Botox Questions

What exactly does Botox do?
Botox blocks signals from the nerves to the muscles.  The injected muscle can no longer contract, which causes the wrinkles to relax and soften.  it is most often used on forehead lines, crow's feet (lines around eyes), and frown lines.

Is it safe?
Yes. botox was approved to be used medically in the late 1980's  by the FDA for ailments such as strabismus (lazy eye) and blepharospasm (uncontrolled blinking).  Botox has been used cosmetically for years to treat wrinkles and facial creases.  In April 2002, Botox gained FDA approval for treatment of moderate-to-severs frown lines between the eyebrows-called glabellar lines.  However, Botox is often used for other areas of the face as well.

How often will I need to get Botox?
The effects of Botox typically last three to six months.  As muscle action gradually returns, the lines and wrinkles begin to re-appear and wrinkles need to be re-treated.  The lines and wrinkles often appear less severe with time because the muscles are being trained to relax.

Juvederm/Radiesse Questions

What exactly do Juvederm and Radiesse do?
These treatments fill in lines and volumize to correct wrinkles for a natural, youthful look that lasts.

What's the difference between Juvederm and Radiesse?
Radiesse is a wrinkle treatment to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds around the nose and mouth. It is made of unique calcium-based microspheres that are suspended in a water-based gel and injected into the skin through a simple, safe and minimally invasive procedure.

Juvederm is a Hyaluronic acid which a natural substance found in the skin and works to trap water and maintain the intercellular space within the dermis.  As our skin ages, hyaluronic acid, collagen and elastin are gradually lost from the dermis.  the end result is volume loss, skin laxity, and wrinkles.  Juvederm and other hyaluronic acids work to repair this.

Are they safe?
Yes.  Both Radiesse and Juvederm are FDA-approved and are commonly used to to treat wrinkles and lines. These treatments have been used widely in Europe as well as other parts of the world for years.

How often will I need to get treatments?
Juvederm and other hyaluronic acids typically last 6-9 months.
Radiesse treatments typically last 12-18 months.

Mesotherapy/LipoDissolve Questions

What exactly does mesotherapy do?
Mesotherapy is the practice of using micro injections of conventional homeopathic medication and/or vitamins into the mesoderm or middle layer of the skin to deliver healing or corrective treatment to a specific area of the body.  Mesotherapy has been touted as the latest breakthrough in aesthetic medicine for body sculpting, cellulite and fat loss, skin rejuvenation as well as male and female hair loss.  Mesotherapy is also used in pain management, sports medicine, sports injuries, and bone calcifications.

Is it safe?
Yes, very!  In many cases mesotherapy offers an alternative to even the safest form of liposuction, tumescent liposuction.  Mesotherapy is a non-invasive alternative supported by a 1994-95 study on "topical fat reduction" by UCLA researchers.  This study concluded that those who had Mesotherapy injections lost weight even without diet or exercise.  About 100 people a year die because of liposuction, Mesotherapy has no deaths, strokes, or heart attacks associated with it.  A patients major concern is simply bruising.

How often will I need to get mesotherapy?

Skin irregularity removal using the LamProbe

What is the LamProbe?
The LamProbe helps to remove those unsightly minor skin irregularities that bother us. These include whiteheads (milias), blackheads (comedones), fibromas (pigmented epidermal growths), broken capillaries, pimples, blood spots and skin tags that are prevalent on the neck and decollete area.

The LamProbe works on the principle of liquids being attracted to heat which is released by various probes. Treatments are very quick (some within a few seconds), and may not even touch the skin's surface. Small skin tags or blood spots disappear immediately and hyperpigmented areas such as liver or "age spots" take only a few seconds. There is minimal discomfort and healing time is short, from a day or two for skin tags to a few weeks for larger skin abnormalities such as fibromas.

Specialty Skin Care and chemical peels

What is a chemical peel?
This is the process of applying trichloroacetic acid (TCA) to the skin, which "peels" away old layers and leaves fresh, new, younger-looking skin.  TCA can be used in many concentrations, but it is most commonly used for medium-depth peeling. Fine surface wrinkles, superficial blemishes and pigment problems are commonly treated with TCA. The results of TCA peel are usually less dramatic than and not as long-lasting as those of a phenol peel. In fact, more than one TCA peel may be needed to achieve the desired result. The recovery from a TCA peel is usually shorter than with a phenol peel.
